As if the new Sharing feature wasn’t enough, we’ve added another feature for all Keeper users. And it’s pretty great, if we do say so ourselves.

Say hello to our new browser extension, for Chrome, Firefox and Safari!

Now you can access your Keeper records right from your browser. When logging in to any website, the browser extension allows you to fill in your user information right from within that site’s login field. Just click the Keeper icon and click “Fill” to insert your stored username and password.

Plus, when you log in to a new website, you can opt for Keeper to remember your log in credentials, so you don’t have to.

Don’t waste time juggling multiple tabs and clipboard items just to sign in. Now all of your Keeper records are right there where you need them, when you need them.

You’re welcome.

As we announced last week, the newest Keeper feature for paid subscribers is now live. Our last post tells you everything you need to know to get started.

So, now that you’ve learned how to use Sharing, what are you going to use it for? Here are a few ways that we think Sharing can benefit our subscribers.

Share with family members.

Ever needed to log in to a family member’s email? Do you share an account with a spouse or parent? The newest version of Keeper allows you to easily share passwords and usernames, as well as other sensitive information, like social security numbers and credit card data, with the people closest to you.

Share with coworkers.

Businesses or offices with joint admin accounts, communal intranet accounts or one big shared Twitter can easily make the log in information for those accounts available to multiple people. Sharing makes it easy to limit what you share, who you share it with, and whether or not they can make changes.

Collaborate.

Are you an entrepreneur with one die-hard partner? An Ebay mogul with a trusty sidekick? A co-blogger? Sharing is for anyone who needs to send precious information securely, simply, and fast.

Update now and start sharing!

Attention Keeper Backup users: your subscription just got even cooler.

We are pleased to announce that Sharing has gone live for all paid subscribers. All you need is the free update and you’re ready to share!

So what is Sharing?

This brand new feature allows you to share individual records with any other paid users. Like all Keeper features, Sharing is simple and secure.

Now, when you login to Keeper on your phone, computer, or through Web App, you will see a ”Share+” icon for any record that you’ve created.

Clicking the icon prompts you to enter the email address of the person you want to share with. You can share records with multiple email addresses, and for each address you decide whether the recipient “Can Edit” or simply “Can View.”

Next time the recipient logs in to Keeper, they will receive an alert that you would like to share a record with them.

Once they accept, the record appears in their Keeper data vault with an icon next to it designating a shared record. If you make a change to any Keeper record that is already being shared, the edit will automatically sync across each account, so everyone stays up to date. And if you wish to remove a user from one or multiple records, you can do so at any time.

Update now and start sharing!

As of yesterday, anti-spam website Spamhaus reported that they were being targeted with a tidal wave of meaningless traffic and data. In fact, their servers were the target of the largest surge of junk content ever directed in one attack.

Exactly how large was it? To put it in perspective, similar attacks tend not to exceed 100 billion bits per second. Ths particular assault came in at about 300 billion bits per second, if not more, acording to CloudFlare Inc.

This technique of overwhelming a server with a flood of useless information and traffic is known as “DNS reflection,” and is sort of like sending heaps of junk mail to one address. While the attackers employed a spamming technique, rather than a hack, events like this one remind us of the cyber war that rages all around us, with cyber criminals using more sophistacted and devastating tactics every day.

Cyber crime is a reality–protect yourself.

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, is a hacker.

In an interview of 60 Minutes he openly distinguished between “criminal” hacking and hacking that is used to exposed a network’s or website’s security flaws. The first, he confirms, is most certainly a crime, generally involving the accessing and exploitation of a victim’s information without permission. His kind of hacking, on the other hand, is useful and helpful in the name, ultimately, of security.

Following the untimely death of young hacker Aaron Swartz, the internet has been abuzz about the idea that there are different kinds of hacking and that some are justifiable, even if others aren’t. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, or CFAA, was put in place in the 1980s, and many are arguing that it is in need of amending.

Dorsey is not the only big name in tech who got his start as a kid hacker. Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates are three of the most recognizable names in technology and have all admitted, if not celebrated, the fact that they come from hacker roots.

What do you think? Are there different kinds of hacking? Are some justifiable? At the end of the day, the internet needs to be a safe place for everyone. What’s the best way to ensure that is the case?

A: They’re among the growing group of celebrity victims of a recent high-profile “doxxing” hack.

Referred to by some as a prank, this tactic of accessing and sharing personal data, including financial information, is a serious cyber crime. As of Monday, as many as 12 celebrities and political figures have been targeted and have found their social security numbers, credit card info and banking information posted publicly.

The growing list of victims, now at about 17, includes Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Palin, Vice President Joe Biden, and the chief of the LAPD. The information, which was posted anonymously on a Russian website, may or may not be authentic. It is posible the hacker or hackers collected enough personal data about the celebrities to log them in to credit report websites and, essentially, steal the vitims’ identities.

We never thought we’d say this, but don’t end up like Michelle. Protect your sensitive data! Someone should have told the first lady about Keeper.

As we announced last week, the new Keeper for Android is now available. And according to a new security report from Blue Coat Systems, you really need it.

Long story short: because of the many available third party Android app stores, cyber-criminals are able to more easily distribute malware-infected apps to Android devices. Users unwittingly downloading legitimate-seeming apps from an untrusted site, and end up installing malicious software on their device.

An article published on Android Authority last September claimed that “virtually all new mobile malware is aimed at Android.” And the year between 2011 and 2012 saw a 600 percent increase in Android malware.

Check out this graph (Source: Android Authority).

So what does this have to do with Keeper? Everything.

A great deal of malware and botnets (the increasingly popular tactic employed by cyber-criminals) are designed to infect devices and steal the passwords stored on them. A device with Keeper installed is protected from this kind of malware via 128 bit AES encryption and a resiliant master password. Plus, our new Keeper for Android is sleeker, faster and optimized for smartphones and tablets, so staying safe is easier and prettier than ever.

Download it from a trusted app store, like Google Play (link) or directly from our website.

As a Valentine’s Day gift to all its users, Facebook announced yesterday that it has been the target of a sophisticated hack…. for over a month.

Apparently a number of Facebook employees visited a compromised website, which attacked their computers with malware. However, according to Facebook’s post about the breach, no user data was compromised. This is only the latest in a series of attacks directed at big internet names, including the New York Times hack covered in our last post, and attacks on the Wall Street Journal and even Twitter.

From the blog post:

“We have found no evidence that Facebook user data was compromised.

As part of our ongoing investigation, we are working continuously and closely with our own internal engineering teams, with security teams at other companies, and with law enforcement authorities to learn everything we can about the attack, and how to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

As pointed out in this Huffington Post coverage of the story, nowhere in the blog post is the word “hack” used. This may have something to do with Mark Zuckerberg’s manifesto, “The Hacker Way,” which glorifies not the illegal breaching of private data but instead “testing the boundaries of what can be done.”

Read the original Facebook blog post here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/facebook-security/protecting-people-on-facebook/10151249208250766
